Wayne’s Adventures
Well, it’s been awhile! Three months to be
exact. Oui, a lot of adventure has occurred
since December 1,2008. The holidays were all-consuming
and January and February have slipped by and the
"Ides of
March" are upon us! So, right to the essential news.
The Stonewall Hospitality Staff and Fan Club Brigade
at The National Harbor Cirque du Soleil Holiday Bash
We had a very good year 2008,
so as an appreciation holiday gift to my staff & Fan Club, I took them
all to see Cirque du Soleil at the National Harbor
on the Potomac at Washington DC. The program was “Kooza” a
Cirque Pageant presentation of a boy (Kooza) who
visits different countries to see and join in their circus
performances. It is playing now at the Inner Harbor at
Baltimore.
If you get an opportunity to see it, I have 15
Staff &
Fan Club members, who would recommend it to you. After the
show, we all trooped down to the waterfront for a great
Seafood Fest, and then after warmly wishing each other Happy
Holidays, we moved the
party next door and crashed at the Hampton Inn. It was an
unforgettable adventure for our Hospitality Team and Loyal
Fan Club, just like the “Stonewall Jackson Experience” is
4-U :).

Facebook is a very popular and user friendly way to
keep up with what’s going on with something or
someone that interests you. It is FREE and simple
to use and will keep you informed about what is
happening at the Inn, and with our “Stonewall
Family”.
What it will do for you
is, it will give you “Stonewall Family” status and
access, not only to me, but also to meet and chat with
other guest friends, old and new. You will automatically
receive all the important news about Wayne’s last minute
deals, JMU events, community concerts and plays, and
other underground, inside, “hotwire” tips and news. We
(and you) can upload pictures, videos, announcements
that would be of interest to our family of guests. As a
“fan” you will receive all the hotwire news from
Stonewall Jackson Headquarters :).
Try it, if you don’t
really enjoy sharing in this family network it is easy
to drop it. But, my guess is, you will find it very
useful, fun, and very interesting! It is safe and
secure. Anderson Cooper of CNN hosts a Facebook
page just like ours, the last time I checked, he had
30,300 fans in his network from all over the world.
It's easy to become our
fan! If you have a Facebook account, just click

Guests of the Month

(Kevin Steele and Anji Barton)
Kevin is a frequent guest at the Inn.
He flies in from Toronto every month or two to consult
with the management team of Rosetta Stone whose
Headquarters is within walking distance. This past
month he brought Anji who functions as a supportive
co-consultant with him. Brilliant, perceptive, witty,
and warmly engaging applies to both of them, and one can
add the descriptor “beautiful” in Anji’s list. Kevin and
I carry on spirited and enjoyable conversations on
everything from cats to the world’s problems and
politics, usually while I am preparing his “Breakfast to
Remember”. He is considered to be a National Treasure
of Canada, indispensable to Rosetta Stone, and a beloved
guest here at our Inn. If you are lucky, you might meet
him here during your next stay with us. He is
unforgettable.
Hospitality Team News
My part-time Innkeeper Intern
Debbie has returned to flying every week for economic
reasons. She comes on weekends when she can which is once
or twice a month. Tanja, my office assistant, continues to
provide invaluable and loyal service to the Inn and me. As
well, the Housekeeping Staff is as it pictured in our last
Newsletter.

But, there are two new
faces on our Hospitality Team that joined us last month
as Interning Innkeepers. They are the Jones Brothers;
Tony
and
Richard
pictured below.
(Tony and Richard)
They are recent graduates, single, ages 23 & 26, which
qualifies them as eligible bachelors. Richard is a graduate
of James Madison University with a major in Economics, Tony
from University of Virginia in Foreign Relations. Richard
is a “runaway” from the local Ruby Tuesdays kitchen,
while Tony was a Manager of The College Inn
restaurant in Charlottesville, just over the mountain at UVa.
They are a welcome sidekicks for me as they live here in
the recently completed Innkeeper apartments on the first
floor. As they gain Innkeeper experience, I am looking
forward to having more freedom to travel, time to spend at
my home on Bryce Mountain, and do some much missed visiting
with friends and relatives.
About Our “Giving Back”

As you might remember, The Inn
and our Stonewall Family has two charities, one domestic and
one international. Our local home charity is “Second Home”
which is a Latch Key after school program for the community
sponsored by our local Lutheran Church. Our international
charity is “Godparents for Tanzania” which is an educational
foundation to fund scholarships for deserving and well
qualified Tanzanian young people. I have previously written
you about both these, and as well about our active
involvement in the Refugee Resettlement Program sponsored by
the United Council of Churches.
Well, there is good
news, The Godparents for Tanzania Foundation has qualified
for a $10,000 grant from Environmental Resources Management,
an international consulting firm, to establish a scholarship
fund for Tanzanians pursuing a career in wildlife
management. Students will receive tuition support and a
stipend for living expenses in exchange for a commitment to
work in wildlife management in Tanzania for at least five
years.
Caring for wildlife conservation areas and
national parks is a promising career opportunity for young
people in Tanzania, according to Rev. Dwayne Westermann, a
retired Lutheran pastor and now President of this
educational foundation and program . The students will
enroll at the College of African Wildlife Management in
Mweka, Tanzania.
To qualify for the grant,
Godparents for Tanzania is seeking $3,000 in matching funds.
Donations to the Mazingira (Environmental) Scholarship Fund
may be made at
http://www.givemeaning.com
The Foundations next Discovery Safari to visit
Tanzanian schools, hospitals, churches and game parks in
Tanzania will be led by Westermann, starting on June 23,
2010. I just might go along, why don’t you join me!! Visit
www.godparents4tz.org for more information.

Blueberry Sausage Breakfast Cake
Every month I receive
an email from several guests or other B&B’s with questions
or permission to serve one of our "Breakfasts to Remember"!
This last week, The Beach Spa B&B in Virginia Beach wrote
that they wanted to make and serve our "Blueberry
Sausage Breakfast Cake" to their guests this past
weekend. (You can get the recipe from our
Recipe Page). It is an
unusual and delicious make-ahead dish.
Danny and Debbie, the
Innkeepers at the
Beach Spa, just called to thank me and to report that
their 12 guests wiped their plates clean with it. At my
suggestion, Richard made the same dish for our guests this
weekend. We served it with Wayne’s Caramelized Fried
Apples, Scrambled Eggs, freshly smoked Sugar Cured Bacon
with a fresh orange & banana garnish. SMASHING! It is easy,
try it! Visit our
Recipe Archive for other great Stonewall Dishes.
Here is another one of Wayne’s Breakfast
Recipes that can be made either the night before and
refrigerated, or in the morning. It serves 6 and is
delicious with the Blueberry Sausage Cake as a side. They
can be baked in a preheated (375F) oven together for 30 +
minutes, and will finish at the same time. I use these
together when we have groups that must eat breakfast
together at the same time. I double or triple the recipes
as needed. Would be great when you have company!
Wayne’s Stonewall Jackson
